The NHS employs more than 1.7 million people in organisations across the country and requires senior managers to coordinate operations to ensure the smooth running of the organisation. Senior managers can be responsible for a specific department, how a budget is spent across the trust or managing care across a number of sites.
Unsurprisingly, managers are responsible for managing staff and even trusts at more senior level. There are general senior managers who work with a range of departments or specialist managers in purchasing and contracting, facilities management and HR. The role of a senior manager is demanding and often involves a lot of travel and for meetings, training and recruiting new staff. Communication skills are essential as you’ll be working with the public implementing new strategies and providing support to NHS staff. You’ll be responsible for ensuring statutory compliance regulations meet NHS standards and keeping staff trained and working efficiently.
Senior managers will have experience in a managerial role, preferably within an NHS organisation to aid their understanding of work practices. It is your responsibility to deliver a high quality, effective, customer service at the NHS which requires a lot of dedication. Senior managers in these high level positions can expect a generous salary and rewards.
