Allied Health Professionals (AHPs) provide a range of diagnostic, technical, therapeutic and direct patient care and support services that are critical to other health professionals that they work with and the patients that they serve. There are all sorts of roles available including everything from dietitians and music therapists, to physiotherapists, diagnostic radiographers, and art therapists.
The scope of allied health practice extends to the individual, the family, the community and to public education; many allied health professions specialise in the promotion of health and the improvement of health-related quality of life.
The requirements to be an AHP vary. Depending on the profession, the required skills may include the knowledge of medical terminology; basics of medical law and ethics; database management; strong interpersonal communication skills. To prove their skills, AHPs often must adhere to national training and education standards.
