Job Title Research Technician Salary 22k - 30k Must Haves * A BSc degree with some relevant work experience in cell/molecular biology * Experience of processing tumour material would be advantageous * Experience of oncology models and general knowledge of cancer in patients would be advantageous * Experienced in keeping accurate and up-to-date records for legislative regulatory and scientific purposes * Knowledgeable about the work being undertaken and safety guidelines * Proficient in the use of computers including experience of MS Office suite of programs The candidate will have no direct reports and will report into the relevant senior scientists. **Company:**17 across company - 4 Administration, 3 Business development, 10 scientific Three teams. One for processing tumours and blood in Manchester, head reporting into CSO. Second dedicated to R&D, head reporting into CSO. Third dedicated to pharma CRO work, head reporting into head of biology. Dynamic is roles are given accountability/responsibility, however everyone works together in teams, and as a wider team. This is needed as equipment and space is shared. Working Hours: 37.5 hrs per week, but an attitude of working until the job is done is preferred. (obviously within reason) Flexitime is possible as long as objectives are not compromised. Location: WA4 4FS, Daresbury Site Travel may be required between the two sites, Manchester science park and Sci-tech Daresbury. 70% Daresbury, 30% Manchester. Probably travel between both sites once per week. Holidays: 24 days, excluding bank holidays Benefits: Statutory benefits offered, including pension, annual salary reviews based on performance. About this position As a Research Technician, you will be responsible for mammalian tissue culture and performing duties appropriate to supporting the functioning of the in vitro laboratories. You will be required to perform and support molecular biology assays in the lab including DNA/RNA extraction and analyses. This role will be performed under minimal supervision in accordance with legislative and health & safety requirements and to Imagen Therapeutics company standards and SOPs. Essential duties and responsibilities The successful applicant will be required to: • To reliably carry out all aspects of tissue culture whilst adhering to aseptic techniques and SOPs • To be responsible for receiving tumour samples and processing them • To be responsible for general housekeeping of the in vitro lab such as cleaning, autoclaving, washing and maintenance of storerooms and any other duties as required • To assist in maintaining and managing supplies of materials necessary for the maintenance of the in vitro unit and projects (including laboratory consumables and reagents/test agents specific to a study) • To effectively work and communicate with other members of the team, or other functions as required • To identify problems associated with techniques, processes and experiments and discuss and agree solutions or improvements with the supervisor and other team members • To learn and apply new technical or scientific methods and show self-awareness regarding personal and technical training needs • To work full time in lab / office environment • Be prepared on occasion to work small periods of time out-of-hours Education and experience We are looking for someone with: • A BSc degree with some relevant work experience in cell/molecular biology • MSc or MRes would be advantageous Skills Technical The right applicant will be competent in more than one of the following technical/job-specific skills: • Tissue culture of mammalian cells • Immunofluorescent staining of mammalian cells • Experience of processing tumour material would be advantageous • Experience of oncology models and general knowledge of cancer in patients would be advantageous • Experienced in keeping accurate and up-to-date records for legislative, regulatory, and scientific purposes • Knowledgeable about the work being undertaken, and safety guidelines • Proficient in the use of computers including experience of MS Office suite of programs.
