Associate Principal Scientist (Pharma Projects) Salary 40k - 50k Must Haves * A PhD in cell/molecular biology * 5–10 years’ experience in a cell-culture laboratory * Previous involvement in and around drug development * Ability to work autonomously as well as in a team * A proven track record in identifying key issues and implementing the right solution for the benefit of the company/team The candidate will sit under SLT as department heads. With no more than 4 direct reports. **Company:**17 across company - 4 Administration, 3 Business development, 10 scientific Three teams. One for processing tumours and blood in Manchester, head reporting into CSO. Second dedicated to R&D, head reporting into CSO. Third dedicated to pharma CRO work, head reporting into head of biology. Dynamic is roles are given accountability/responsibility, however everyone works together in teams, and as a wider team. This is needed as equipment and space is shared. Working Hours: 37.5 hrs per week, but an attitude of working until the job is done is preferred. (obviously within reason) Flexitime is possible as long as objectives are not compromised. Location: WA4 4FS, Daresbury Site Travel may be required between the two sites, Manchester science park and Sci-tech Daresbury. 70% Daresbury, 30% Manchester. Probably travel between both sites once per week. May be required to attend national or international conferences from time to time. Imagen have developed predictRxTM, a service to provide clinical drug screens to optimise treatment decisions in patients with cancer. About this position As an Associate Principal Scientist, you will take responsibility for proactively carrying out R&D projects and initiatives in line with company objectives. This includes working with external collaborators to scientifically explore projects and test their feasibility, through to development and implementation as a viable commercial model. You will strive to ensure that Imagen Therapeutics as the leader in predictive oncological testing and development of PDC models, remains in a leadership position and offer the very best in customer service. You will use your knowledge and experience to direct, guide and structure the laboratory activities of the scientific team. In addition, you will have significant line management responsibilities of scientific staff and lead your team with commercial awareness. As a member of the Imagen team, your responsibilities will include playing a key role in delivering and developing R&D strategy. You will provide expert scientific leadership and technical expertise in the development of new assays and model types. The primary location for this role will be in the Northwest but in time you may need to travel to collaboration sites, which may be located internationally. Essential Duties and Responsibilities The successful applicant will be required to: • Manage, perform and co-ordinate R&D projects for the company, acting as their primary contact and providing both technical and academic expertise • Actively develop R&D projects into commercially sound models which improve and enhance the personalized medicine products and service offering • Proactively identify issues and autonomously implement solutions, through process improvements and/or new R&D initiatives • To proactively keep updated with latest publications and literature, to learn and apply new scientific methods and better inform R&D programs • To contribute to interpretation of data and be able to present data in a format suitable for inclusion in sponsor/client reports, presentations, or company publications/posters • To effectively communicate results to other members of the team, or other functions as required. • To be an effective team member possessing a range of practical skills and demonstrating flexibility at all times. • To take responsibility for reducing hazards and for the health and safety of others and be responsible for conducting risk assessments as and when required • To understand, if appropriate, the intellectual property strategy for the project and its significance in securing Imagen’s position Education and experience We are looking for someone with: • A PhD in cell/molecular biology • 5–10 years’ experience in a cell-culture laboratory • Previous involvement in and around drug development • Ability to work autonomously as well as in a team • A proven track record in identifying key issues and implementing the right solution for the benefit of the company/team Skills Technical The right applicant will be competent in more than one of the following technical/job-specific skills: • Cell culture techniques – experience in primary mammalian/stem cell culture desirable • Performing cell-based assays accurately and reproducibly • Immunofluorescent assays and image capture on high content screening platforms • Computer literate and proficient in word processing, spreadsheet and presentation packages • Biochemical and/or molecular biology methods – DNA/RNA/Protein extraction • Analytical skills.
