Thank You - Southport & Ormskirk Hospitals NHS Trust

The nominations for the Unsung Hero Awards 2018 are now open, inviting everyone to praise non-medical NHS professionals from around the country.

Following our old tradition, we are still visiting different Trusts across the UK, aiming to meet all the NHS Unsung Heroes and encouraging their colleagues to put nominations forward. This year we’ve enjoyed the hospitality of one of the North West NHS Trusts: Southport & Ormskirk Hospitals NHS Trust.

Many of us have an impression of how a hospital operates. But unless you work in the NHS, you may not know much about how many people are involved in keeping the hospital running and why non-medical staff are such a crucial part of patient care.

The communications team of Southport & Ormskirk Hospitals NHS Trust has done a great job organising our visit. Among 4500 employees working across two hospital sites we were introduced to dozens of non-medical specialists. We met so many Unsung Heroes including: clinical coders, porters, medical secretaries, receptionists, Facilities staff, Catering staff, HR and Information professionals, etc. We could see how pleased they were about their daily work and how inspired they felt when they were telling us about their professions.

We want to say a massive “Thank You” to Southport & Ormskirk Hospitals NHS Trust for having us and to all its staff for the incredible work they do! We expect dozens of nominations from Southport & Ormskirk Hospitals NHS Trust now.
