Thank You - Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust
The early bird catches the worm. On the 6th of November, that idiom worked pretty well for two early birds from the GoToJobBoard team. That day we left Manchester at 7.30 am and headed to the Eastern coast of England, where the land reaches the North Sea. In Grimsby city we visited the Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital which is run by Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust.
Karl Roberts, Clinical Quality Lead at the Directorate of People and Organisational Effectiveness Department, was so kind to support our initiative to meet some of their non-medical professionals and spread the word about our Unsung Hero Award. We met Karl at Fab Change Day in Leeds and were fascinated by his desire to take a role as one of our ambassadors and promote the importance of non-medical NHS staff. He organised our visit within a couple of days and before we knew where we were we stood at the door of the hospital.
Actions always speak for themselves. Hot coffee after a long road is exactly what one needs. After the cuppa so attentively suggested by Karl, we were ready to start our journey. We walked along endless corridors; each door reminded us about Kate Granger and her amazing campaign #HelloMyNameIs. Behind each door, our NHS Unsung Heroes were absolutely absorbed in their work not expecting anyone to come to see them. The doors would open and Karl would take the lead presenting us again and again to every personnel member, explaining our visit and inviting everyone to have a small talk with us.
It is hard to believe that within 2 hours it is possible to meet dozens of friendly and welcoming people, but we did! Our unsung heroes of Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust were friendly and truly caring people who were ready to listen attentively to our words. They proved it to be true that the NHS only recruits people who meet its core values through its Value-based Recruitment policy. Each specialist we met was really interested in our campaign and showed their desire to nominate their colleagues for an award.
We received plenty of nominations from this trust with great stories about incredible people working there. Plenty, indeed! We also believe it is just a start as we were re-assured there are many professionals who deserve these nominations just for their attitude and work ethic.
We say “Thank You” to Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust for having us and to all its staff for the incredible work they do! It was definitely worth being an early bird and visiting that charming city by the North Sea.
